CWG Trade Unionist Speaks Against Inter-Imperialist War
A CWG comrade made the following anti-war speech at the Local 18 IUPAT (INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PAINTERS AND ALLIED TRADES) general membership meeting in New York City on February 28th.
Liz Shuler and the top leadership of AFL-CIO has recognized the authority of the imperialist warmongers of NATO and Russia to resolve the current war crisis….a crisis that can only achieve a just resolution by the international working class. It is NATO and Russia’s “political and diplomatic” maneuvers that have brought us to the brink of a new world war. They offer no solutions. War and recession/depression are all they have to offer you.The working class has the power to stop war through labor political general strikes against the war….from Russia to Ukraine, throughout Europe and right here in the U.S. This means we need a fighting workers’ labor party that is at all times independent of the parties and projects of the bankers and bosses. We will not escape the fates prescribed for us by the banks and bosses until we have a workers government.
On every continent, in every country, workers should be demanding: bring the troops home, close foreign bases, release arrested antiwar demonstrators and drop all charges; Russia OUT, NATO OUT; no sanctions, because they lay off Russian workers behind the ruse of attacking the profits of the Oligarchs.
Karl Liebknecht the martyred German champion of the workers went to jail fighting against World War I, paying with his life because he called for workers in ALL the warring countries to end the war.,…to open the books, expose the secret treaties, the backroom deals, who is making profits on all the war materials. I stand with him.
